Jack walked through the jungle, looking down at the floor and not really paying any attention to where he was going. Right now, all he needed was a break. He had a lot on his mind and needed to just get some peace and quiet, there was few places on this island where it was quiet, but the jungle seemed to be the best place.
Looking up he noticed someone's bag in a nearby tree, he picked up his pace and made it to the tree. The bag was out of reach for Jack, so [as he had nothing better to do] he thought he might as well retrieve this bag and see if there is anything useful inside.
As he almost reached the bag he heard someone's voice, it was someone he recognized, and upon looking down he saw ....

((You have no idea how happy I am that this site is back up. I'm ecstatic and happy and overly enthused and just... wow. lol.))
"What are you doing up there?" asked Addy, curiously looking up at Jack. The man was up in a tree a little ways, which was a bit surprising for Adelei. She tilted her head to the side slightly, both in curiosity and so that she could pick up his response with her good ear. The batteries in her hearing aids were running low, so she had taken to only wearing one at a time to hopefully buy some extra time with them. What was she going to do when they completely died?
Addy told herself not to worry about that right now. Hardly anyone on this island even knew that she used hearing aids and she didn't want people to start treating her differently if they found out. So she kept it a secret from pretty much everyone.
Upon further observation of why Jack could possibly be in a tree, she noticed a bag. "Is that yours?" she asked him. After Addy had asked, she realized that it was a stupid question. Why would he have thrown his own bag up in a tree? She took a few steps closer and looked up at the bag, trying to see if she recognized it. Something about it looked familiar...

Jack say Addy down below and smiled "Oh hey!" Jack said, edging closer to the bag. He could almost reach it, and soon enough he would be able to find out who's it was. Jack remember how hard it was for him to find his luggage when they first crashed. And now it had been almost 60 days and someone was still missing this bag.
"What are you doing up there?"
Jack pointed to the bag, letting out a big sigh as he was just inches away from it and his arm wasn't long enough to reach. Just a little further .... eureka! Jack grabbed it and pulled it closer.
"Is that yours?"
"No, but i thought i would get it down and see if there is anything useful inside. Here, catch" Jack dropped the bag down near Addy and began climbing down again.

Addy watched as Jack struggled to reach the bag. He mentioned that it wasn't his, which now meant that they needed to figure out who it belonged to. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult, right?
"Here, catch."
She barely had time to register the words before the bag was coming toward her. Luckily she moved fast enough and caught it in her arms. It wasn't too heavy or anything, which was always a good thing.
Now that she was actually looking at it, Addy remembered where she'd seen it. "I think this is mine..." she mentioned, kneeling on the ground and setting the bag in front of her. She undid the zipper and carefully looked inside, being cautious of any insects that may have found their way inside.
Inside the bag were four notebooks. Flipping through them, Addy noticed that a lot of the ink had been washed away from rain; this backpack had obviously not been safe from the rainstorms they had experienced on the island.
Back at the airport in Sydney, Addy remembered Will (a man she had worked with while rescuing sea turtle eggs on the coast) handing her a bag, saying that the notes he took throughout the event were in there. He had been pretty excited about something, but he never told her. Addy had suspected that he had written his findings in these books...
But now they were rain-soaked. There were a few pages here and there that were still readable, but most things were ruined. "Well... I just hope this stuff wasn't too important..." she commented.

Jack climbed down quickly, and stood by the side of her "Well I guess it didn't take us too long to figure out who's bag it is" He said with a small laugh. Jack was, in a way, gratefully Addy had seen him in that tree and stopped. Now he wouldn't have to go around the beach trying to find out who's it was. His job was done.
"Well... I just hope this stuff wasn't too important..."
Jack looked at her oddly, tilting his head to the side like dogs do when listening to there owners. He thought about what she had just said, maybe he had misheard or she didn't mean that, but Jack had to ask "You don't know? .. Most people pack there own bags and know whats inside them" Jack said, not being rude or sarcastic in a anyway, but wondering why she had hoped it wasn't important. Did she not even know what it was?

Addy continued flipping through the notebook as Jack stood next to her. Unfortunately for her, he was standing on the side of her that didn't have the hearing aid in. She had just barely heard his question, but knew that she'd just have to put up with it. What was she supposed to do? Swivel around so that her good ear was facing Jack and look like a complete idiot? No. As long as Jack didn't speak too quietly, she should be able to pick up what he said.
In response to his question, she gave him a small smile. "Oh, well, a guy I was working with gave me the bag right before I got on the plane. He said he put his notes about our work in here, so it was probably just sea turtle measurements and egg counts or something." But hadn't Will mentioned that there was something else major in there? Some sort of discovery he had made? "I didn't read them on the plane, so I have no idea what he wrote down."
Addy set the four notebooks on the ground and looked through the rest of the bag, but all she found were some pictures of sea turtles, egg clutches, and a tourist's pamphlet talking about the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the pictures were of sea turtles themselves, while others involved herself or someone else taking measurements of the turtles. All the pictures had water stains on them, but you could still see the majority of what was in them.
"Well... these aren't much use anymore," she said with a half smile, brushing a strand of brown hair out of her eyes.

Jack understood now, not about the sea turtles [as he had no idea what Addy did back in the real world] but why she didn't know what was in there. If someone else had given her the bag and she hadn't looked inside then she wouldn't know what to expect in there. Jack did hope that it wasn't important, but not like it would make too much difference. They were stranded her and things in that bag weren't going to make much of a difference.
He leaned over her shoulder and looked at the photos, by the looks of things Addy was either saving some sea turtles or helping them in some way. It wasn't exactly clear as the bag had been out in the rain, and when it rained on this island it rained hard, so the pictures were blurry but he could make Addy out in a few of them.
"So, what did you do in the real world Addy?" Looking at all this made Jack too curious and he felt he had to ask. No point sitting here guessing, might as well come out and ask her. Unless she didn't want anyone to know, in that case Jack would drop it and wouldn't mention it. Everyone was entitled to there own secrets, but they didn't remain secrets for very long on this island.

"So, what did you do in the real world Addy?"
Addy turned her head to look at Jack as he asked the question (she was mostly just glad that she had heard it) and gave him a small smile. "Wildlife conservation," she told him, looking through the soggy pictures again. "It's not as glorious as being a doctor, but it's loads of fun and I get to help out the animals." Sure, it sounded lame and cheesy, but did that really matter? No. Addy loved what she did.
"I got a call a few months ago asking if I wanted to do a project with sea turtles over in Australia. I jumped on the offer. I'd be getting out of the States to do my own thing, and I'd be saving little baby sea turtles," she explained with a small laugh. Addy had been so excited to fly out to Australia. It was a big thing for her; she was finally doing things herself. She was being a normal person with no disabilities to worry about. It had been wonderful.
She noticed the background noises of the jungle start to fade in and out. Knowing that it nature probably wasn't being so sporadic, Addy figured that her hearing aid was going crazy. It did that a lot these days, which meant that it was eventually going to give out completely. At least she knew how to fix it.
"I wonder why no one's seen this bag until now..." she commented. As she spoke, she moved her hand up to her ear and carefully wiggled the hearing aid around in her ear canal until it finally stopped fizzing out. To anyone who wasn't paying close attention, it just looked like she was scratching her ear or something. Addy just hoped that Jack wouldn't recognize the action for what it really was.
((Well, this is my last post for about a week. I'm flying across the country tomorrow and I don't think I'll have internet access at the place I'm staying. I'm so sorry that I have to leave right when things got started again... it sucks. But I will return next Monday! ;D))

[[Hope to see you soon! I will try and keep the site alive ]] Jack listened to what Addy had to say, it seemed she really enjoyed her job in the real world. As did Jack, and probably most people on this island, but it looked like they wouldn't be going back to them anytime soon, far from it. Then the conversation moved back to the bag, and it was strange that no one had seen it until now. People went out into the jungle nearly everyday and when the first crashed here some people had been put in charge of collecting all the bags. But no one, in the sixty days they had been here, had spotted this bag. "I never usually walk this way" Jack mentioned, normally the only time he would go out into the jungle is to go the the hatch. And this wasn't the right way to wards the hatch so he had never really explored this area of the jungle. "But you would have thought someone would have come this way at some point" Maybe no one had ever looked up into the trees before and they had just walked straight on, whatever the case was they had the bag now. If someone had found it a few days earlier then the photo's might not be ruined, but there was nothing he could really do about it now.

((OOC: Hope you don't mind, because I know Jack will )) "Actually Shepherd, the hostiles come through here regularly." John Halsey walked out from behind a bush. He had followed a few of the hostiles onto the trail he was on and had hoped to catch a few. Holstering his weapon, he noticed that there was someone with Jack. "Ma'am."

[[OOC: Oh no ]] Jack turned around to see John Halsey, someone he didn't get along with. Jack did try and get on with everyone on this island, but John made it very hard, he just wouldn't listen to Jack and had to do everything his way. But still, Jack tried. "John" Jack gave a small nod "We just found this bag in the tree. If the hostiles came through here so often how come they didn't take it?" Jack asked. Something that struck Jack was how John knew they came through here, normally they didn't leave a trail and weren't spotted. But it seemed John knew otherwise, maybe he was still trying to capture one, not like it did a lot of good the first time they had someone in the hatch.

"They aren't interested in the cargo, Shepherd. They're only goal is our elimination."
John looked right, then left. "What direction did you come from?" To the right was where John had seen the hostiles run to, and where they came from. To the left was the beach. If they came from the right, they might have ruined his attempt to capture one of them.

"And how would you know that?" Jack asked, he seemed pretty sure that they were only interested in eliminating them. But then again this was John Halsey, he did have a wild imagination, so Jack shouldn't believe everything he hears from him.
"We came from the beach" Jack said, pointing to the left. Why did it matter so much to John which way they had come? He was one strange person and Jack wasn't even going to attempt to understand him. He would just let him do his own thing and try to stay out of his way.

((Oooo... yay for tension! I always liked reading posts between the two of you when the site was really active. Good stuff. )) Addy got to her feet and slung the bag over her shoulder when she and Jack were joined by another one of their beach-mates. It was John Halsey, a man she had seen around but never really communicated with. Even though she didn't really know him, she knew that he was a bit strange and that quite a few of the survivors had differing opinions about him. She nodded her head politely in recognition, but otherwise stayed silent. It was easy for Addy to see that Jack and John didn't seem to get along too well. John kept talking about the hostiles being in this area. Addy glanced around. Were there Others around here right now? "If They come through here on a regular basis, would it really be smart of us to stand here talking about it?" she asked innocently. Addy hated being in the middle of arguments and, even though this hadn't escalated to the point of an actual argument, she didn't want to to get to that level. Besides, if the Others were around, she didn't exactly want to stick around and meet them anytime soon.

"A strategic course of action, ma'am. I assume you have no combat training, and from experience, I know Shepherd has none either. Be sure to check your tracks and be sure you weren't followed. Head back toward the beach, less likely to run into one of their patrols." John tucked back into the bush, becoming nearly invisible.

Jack remained silent until John had disappeared. He didn't want to argue with him anymore, it was just pointless as from experience Jack knows John will never admit he is wrong and never back down. So instead Jack said nothing at all in an attempt to make him walk off, and it seems it paid off.
He turned back to Addy "Don't worry about him, you don't have to head back to the beach if you don't want to" Jack told him, not wanting to have to take orders from John. He quickly glanced over his shoulder to make sure he had gone, and seeing that he had made Jack smile a little. Pleased he didn't have to deal with him anymore.

Listening to him speak, Addy wasn't too sure that she liked this John fellow too much. He seemed a bit blunt and rude. She was glad when he walked off, leaving her and Jack alone again.
Glancing up at the other man as he spoke, Addy shrugged her shoulders lightly. "I hadn't really planned on going back just yet," she commented. But the idea that there could be Others in the area made her a bit nervous.
"Do you really think the Others are around here somewhere?" she asked Jack, absently rubbing a small scar on her arm as if she'd just gotten the shivers for some reason.

Jack laughed slightly "No, don't worry about it. John thinks they're everywhere. He shot one of us thinking we were one of them. You shouldn't believe everything that he says" To be telling the truth, Jack had no idea if they would be around here or not. But he knew what John was like, so he just guessed they wouldn't be in any danger.
Jack could see Addy got slightly worried when mentioning the Others, everyone did. And he could blame here, deep down Jack was worried, but he could never show this, he had to remain strong for the camp. Otherwise the whole place would fall into a massive panic.
"Want to take a walk?" Jack asked, looking further into the jungle.

Jack didn't seem to worried about the possibility of Others being nearby. Jack usually knew what was going on; Addy figured that if he wasn't worried, then there really wasn't too much to worry about.
When he asked if she wanted to take a walk, Addy smiled and gave a small nod. "Sure," she replied. "I think my schedule is pretty open," she joked. There wasn't a lot to do in this place. It wasn't like Addy had any plans or anything (unless you count lazing around reading a book as being something to do).
"Any place wonderful out here to walk to?" she asked Jack, adjusting the pack on her back so it was more comfortable. She told herself that she'd have to take some time later to go through the notes from Will to see if she could make anything out. Addy doubted anything would be legible anymore, but it was worth a shot, right?

"Well I saw this amazing tree earlier" Jack said jokingly. As really, they wasn't much out here. Well, they hadn't been around the whole island, but what they had seen ... there wasn't much. It was amazing that they had found the hatch, as it was underground until John Locke dug around it. But then they did find the front door, but it wasn't the type of thing you look out for in a jungle.
"I guess we can head this way" He said, pointing in the opposite direction to where John had gone. The last thing he wanted to do was bang into him again and get some lecture. Who did he think he was? Jack's father?
Walking slowly Jack looked around the place, maybe there would be some more luggage out here, it seemed like no one had checked around here. Either that or they had just missed that one.
