((So, by my count, Jack has 5 and Juliet has 3 so far.))
"Really, what you're saying is ... I'm better"
Juliet gave a short laugh as she watched Jack shoot. "Please," she said with a slight roll of the eyes. "This is why we didn't give you the pool table; we were afraid to give you an ego boost. It's for your own good," she told him.
She watched as his last shot went horribly wrong, setting her up for a tricky, yet perfect, shot. Juliet glanced sidelong at Jack as she aimed at the cue ball. "So you're a hustler?" she asked him, making sure her cue position was correct for this shot. One of Jack's balls was between her ball and the cue ball, making things difficult. With the right wrist movement, however, Juliet was able to make the cue ball jump over Jack's ball and hit hers into the pocket. She gave him a smug look as if to say Beat that!
"Well, for your own sake, I'd hope you're really good when it comes down to the last few shots," she told him, easily hitting in another one of her balls, tying the score up. They each had two balls left on the table, along with the black eight ball. Juliet looked for another shot and tried it, but the ball didn't make it to the hole.

Jack watched Juliet hit the cue ball over his and hitting her own into the pocket, with a smile he said "Not bad" Of course, he would never be able to do this, it was a very clever and well done shot.
But once again it had come to Jack's shot, looking around the table the balls weren't exactly in easy places. It looked like Jack was just going to have smack them and hope for the best. He knelt down near the table, getting level with the balls and table, seeing if there was any way he would be able to pot one of there.
Jack kept quiet, aiming the cue and concentrated on this shot. The cue ball went flying up to one of Jack's balls, hitting it on the left side, knocking it near the hole. It stopped on the edge, but the cue ball hadn't finished moving, it traveled down to the other end of the table, hitting the other solid, and sending it into one of the pockets.
"Just as I planned" Jack said, smirking, feeling lucky that it one had gone in. This next one was going to be easy, and without taking much time he hit it straight into the pocket and moved onto the black. Thinking this would be easy to finish of, he hit it straight to the top left pocket, but instead of going in, it hit the cushion before the pocket and came rolling back down the table.
"Thought I'd give you a chance"

Juliet watched Jack hit the eight ball... and miss. She smiled slightly at his comment. "Well thanks, I appreciate it," she told him with a grin as she easily hit one of her balls into a hole. "I hope you're not trying to lose on purpose to make me feel better about myself," she commented, aiming for her next ball. She hit it toward one of the cushions at just the right angle so it bounced off and went into a nearby hole. "Because we both know that I'm better anyway," she teased, giving Jack a joking smile as she walked around the table and eyed a good shot for the last ball.
It was actually a pretty easy shot, thankfully. Juliet almost hated to beat Jack and almost thought about missing and letting him win.
Almost.
Instead, she hit the eight ball into a corner pocket without any problems at all. "And that's game," she announced with a smile, looking over at Jack and resting against her cue stick. "Want another round, or d'you want to see more of the area?" she asked him.

"Well to save me the humiliation of getting beaten again, maybe we should move on" Jack said, smiling and placing down the cue. He was a graceful loser and didn't really mind. It wasn't like he had to run around with his pants down, then maybe he would have something to argue about.
"What else have you got around here?" Jack asked. So far he had only seen the games room and his house, but he wanted to see everything. Maybe later they could come back and have another game, or Jack could come when Juliet wasn't around and practice. Either way, he knew he would end up back here at some point.
He walked over to the door, and held it open for Juliet "Ladies first." When they got outside Jack took another look around, still finding it hard to believe this place existed.

Juliet put her cue away next to Jack's and walked out the door with a 'thank you' as he held it open for her. What else was there to show Jack? "Around here, there really isn't much. Whenever I'm not working, I usually just lie around a read a book or something," she commented, taking a few steps away so that she was in the warm sunlight.
"I suppose I could show you the fence around this place," she said after a moment. Juliet didn't want Jack to stumble across that sonic fence one day and try to cross it. He wouldn't survive it if he tried. "Or we could just amble around and meet some of the other people here. Whichever you want to do."
((Sorry for the crap post. I've got writer's block. Grrr...))

Work? What work did she do? Jack knew she was a fertility doctor, but was there really that many pregnant women on this island? Maybe there was, Jack had only just got here so didn't really know, or maybe she had a different job ... Jack had no idea but chose not to answer and just go along with it.
"Sonic fence?" Jack was now a little too confused. What in the hell is a sonic fence? "I guess we could go see that ... and on the way you can explain what it is" He said smiling. He felt a little dumb asking this, but it's not like you hear about sonic fence's everyday.
As for going around and meeting people, Jack wasn't too keen on that, mainly because he knew they wouldn't get along. Charlie had killed one of these people, and he knew they would probably blame anyone of the survivors for that murder. And because Jack was the only one here, they would most likely blame him.

"To the fence, then," said Juliet with a smile, walking a pace or two in front of Jack to lead the way. "I figured it'd be best to show it to you now in case you're out walking the next few days and come across it. Crossing the fence is not something that a sane person does," she explained as they walked.
Juliet didn't really know too much about the fence. She knew it was able to kill people and that it kept that strange mass of black smoke out of their little community. It also keeps any of us from trying to get away, she thought bitterly.
She told herself that it didn't matter anymore. In just a few days she was finally going to get to see her sister. She was going to meet her nephew and life was going to go back to normal. There would be no dealing with mysterious fetus deaths, no Ben and his manipulation skills, no more living on this island. Juliet would move back to Miami with Rachel and things would be great.
Realizing that she had been drifting off into her own thoughts, Juliet forced herself to return to the present and deal with things that were going on now. What had they been talking about? The fence. That was it. "The fence is kind of hard to explain," she said as they continued walking. "The main thing you need to know about it is that you don't cross it."

[[OOC: She knew it was able to kill people and that it kept that strange mass of black smoke out of their little community Juliet claimed she had never seen the black smoke before to Kate, and this was after when this was set! Are you saying she lied? lol]] Jack followed her, wondering why they would have such a fence. It appeared people who were in this little community were stuck here, so even if anyone wanted to leave ... they can't. Maybe everyone wanted to get off this island as much as Jack did, but they can't. This didn't seem likely as everyone else seemed happy here and didn't seem to mind it. Either that or they were bottiling up there emotions so that no one else knew. "Why can't I cross it?" Jack asked, this may seem like a stupid question to most people but Jack hadn't seen the fence yet. So in his mind it was a little white wooden fence that could be found at any house. The sonic-bit he hadn't quiet worked out yet, but once he saw this, he would know not to cross it. "How did we get here if we can't cross this fence?" Jack had loads of questions he wanted to ask, and he knew he probably wouldn't get answers to all of them. But he couldn't just stand here and wonder anymore, he had to ask!

((Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. Well... Juliet isn't afraid of lying. So it's possible that she was just lying, again, to Kate about the monster. *shrug* I dunno. Oh well! ;D)) "Why can't I cross it?" asked Jack as they walked along. Without even glancing at him, Juliet gave him the frank answer. "It'll kill you." There was no reason to beat around the bush with a topic like that. She didn't want Jack to die because of the fence, so she wanted him to be warned about what it could do. That being out of the way, Juliet thought about how to answer Jack's next question. Jack had been given a sedative for the ride over, so he didn't know about the submarine just yet. Juliet was sure that he suspected something out of the ordinary, but she wasn't sure. "When we came back here, we didn't cross the fence," she explained to Jack. "We went under it." Sure, she was answering his questions, but not fully. There were times when she just loved being vague like this. Especially to see the reactions of the person she was talking with. Juliet looked back at Jack as they continued walking under the shade of some trees, leaving the buildings behind them and entering the beginnings of a jungle. "Answer your questions?" she asked him, knowing full well that she hadn't really answered his questions at all. ((Soo... I'm assuming that they wouldn't have let Jack see the sub. I'm also assuming that they use the sub to get from place to place. Lots of assuming. It's fun. If you have issues with any of my assumptions, let me know and I'll change them. ))

[[Well you seem to be doing a great job as an other. I'm have no complaints Keep it up!]] "Kill me?" Jack repeated, not sure if she was joking or not. But he knew that once they arrived at this fence all his questions would be answered, or .. well some of them. So he just kept walking and listen to Juliet's next answer. But Juliet didn't really answer Jack's question, it was in true "Other" style really. As none of them seemed to answer anything about this island. So in that case, Jack chose to stop asking questions, and instead to just keep following Juliet. "It's all crystal clear now" Jack said, with a slight hint of sarcasm in his voice. He wasn't being rude, but it was pretty obvious that she hadn't.

Juliet gave Jack a small smirk at his response. "That's what I was going for," she added, going with the sarcastic nature of this conversation.
The two of them walked in silence for a moment before Juliet turned to look back at Jack again. "I'm surprised, really," she commented. "You haven't attacked me for any sort of answers to much of anything." She had expected Jack to heckle her for answers as to if Austen and Ford were really safe, how he was going to be getting home, or any of the island's other mysteries.
At any rate, it didn't really matter. Juliet stepped out from under the shade of the trees and looked at the fence about thirty feet in front of her. The metal pylons stood high above her head, silently emitting high frequency sound waves that could potentially kill a person. Juliet didn't know if the fence was set a a lethal level at the moment, but she didn't want to risk it. And she wasn't going to tell Jack that it could be turned off. Some things just needed to be kept confidential.
"Well... here it is," she said unnecessarily. As if it wasn't plainly obvious that they had arrived.

"You haven't attacked me for any sort of answers to much of anything."
Jack knew that even if he did ask, there was no way he would get any answers from Juliet. He had only asked a simple question moments ago and hadn't got a proper answer. There was no point in getting annoyed by any of it, he would just have to keep his head low, and not ask any questions.
"Well, I could ask you a million and one questions, but I know I wouldn't get any answers. So I thought it would be better to keep quiet and not ask any questions. Soon enough I will be leaving this place so it wont bother me anymore."
Once Jack was off this island he planned on getting rescue for everyone back at the beach. No matter how long it took he would find this island again, and then ... he would get some answers.
"Well... here it is,"
Jack had already spotted it before Juliet had said anything, his mouth had almost dropped open upon seeing it. Wow. The fence was huge and he hadn't seen anything like it. Walking a little closer ... but not too close, he noticed a small box attached to one of the pylons. This must be how they turn it off.
Jack stood there in silence, not sure what to say anymore.

Juliet watched Jack for a moment, eying the look of amazement on his face. As he took a few steps closer, Juliet cautioned, "Remember, don't get too close. It can kill you." The last thing she needed was for Jack to die while she was around. She figured that it would somehow get blamed on her and that was not something she wanted to go through at the moment.
Stepping up next to Jack, Juliet continued speaking. "It forms a full perimeter around the area. Nothing can get in or out without authorization," she explained. Well, it really only depended on knowing the code to the key-box. The code was changed every morning for added security. But, again, Jack really didn't need to know that bit of information.

Jack still didn't know what to say. After all the treks they have had on the island, the amount of times people have wandered off into the jungle and not come back ... and no one had ever come across this. This was amazing.
The temptation to put his hand through was strong, he was just so curious about what would happen. He understood you would die, but how? Would darts fly out of the pylons at you? Was the some kind of electrical current that would kill you? Jack had no idea, and he knew Juliet wouldn't answer him if he did ask.
But Jack knew better, he wasn't stupid and was not actually going to put his hand through. Maybe if they got some kind of animal and put it through ... no ... no, it didn't matter. "Well, I guess that is that" Jack said, thinking maybe it would be best to move on now.

Juliet studied Jack's reaction, amazed again that he wasn't asking questions about the fence. Maybe he was finally learning that he never really got many answers no matter how many questions he asked. Juliet told herself that she'd be able to answer all kinds of his questions once they were both off the island.
"When I first came here, this fence made me feel so... trapped," she told Jack. "They told me that it was only to keep out the dangerous wildlife," she commented, fighting the urge to roll her eyes. "It just felt so... restricting. After a year, I started to realize that I wasn't allowed to leave. I'd come out and stare at this fence, hating everything it stood for, and not even knowing the real reason for why it existed."
Juliet realized that she'd been rambling about her meaningless thoughts and emotions. She smiled slightly and shook her head. "Sorry..." she apologized. "I'll just be glad to finally get away from this place. I've been here three years too long." She was ready to go home. Her real home.

"Well I suppose it would keep out the polar bears" Jack said with a small laugh. He had no idea why the polar bears were here, but it was probably something to do with the Dharma Initiative, and he wasn't even sure if Juliet had seen them before. She had been on this island a lot longer than Jack, so probably had. ".. And not to mention that security system. If it keeps them out it would make me feel a lot safer"
Jack didn't want to say black smoke, as this would have made him seem crazy. So instead he used the term that Danielle had once used when they asked her what it was, although the answer was very Other-ish ... it did give it a name.
"I know I haven't been here as long as you, but I know the feeling of wanting to get off this island." What he didn't want to mention to Juliet is; once he was off this island he was planning on coming back and helping out all the people back at camp. They would return home, Jack was going to make sure of it.

((I'm really sorry for the late reply. Things have been busy. Gah. Sorry!))
"The polar bears were supposed to stay on the other island," commented Juliet with a smile. "But the fence keeps them under control." Someone had decided to release the polar bears over here to see how they would adapt and, sadly enough, they were now all dead. Shame, really.
Juliet gave Jack a curious look at his next statement. "Security system?" she asked him. "What are you talking about?" They didn't really have a fancy security system. At least, nothing besides this fence.
"As for leaving this place..." Juliet allowed herself another smile. A small one, but a smile nonetheless. "I've been asking to leave since my first six months here were over. I can't wait to get away from this place, to get back to everything back home." Most importantly, however, she wanted to see her sister. That was the only thing that she cared about.

Was Juliet just playing dumb to avoid the topic of the black smoke? Her face seemed serious, but Jack never could tell "You know ..." Jack said trying to avoid using the term black smoke. "That ... thing that goes around pulling people into holes in the ground"
Jack remembered one of his very first encounters with it, they had been coming back from the black rock when John had gotten taken away from it. If it wasn't for Jack then John could have died, he had thrown the dynamite into the hole where it was attempting to take him. Locke hadn't been too pleased about it, but he didn't know what would have happened if that thing had managed to pull him down there.
Maybe Juliet had no seen it, being on the other side of this fence. He had never spotted Juliet before when they had met the others, they had seen Ben, Tom, Mrs Klugh and many others ... but Jack didn't remember her being dressed up as a hill-billy.

Juliet tried to figure out what Jack was talking about. Something that pulled people underground? It didn't make any sense. Unless... "Are you talking about the living smoke?" she asked him. Juliet had heard of this entity on the island that took the form of a swirling cloud of black smoke. She'd been told of its existence, but she had no idea what it was for.
"I think you and I would both like answers to that mystery," she commented after a moment. Juliet wasn't told answers to everything in this place. If she was told to do something, she did it mostly without too much of a fuss. When she had been told of their runway project, Juliet had asked what it was for but, like always, she wasn't told anything important. Only that it needed to be finished.
"But don't worry about it in here. I don't know what exactly it is, but I do know that it won't cross the fence," she explained to Jack. "It can't get in."

Jack's mouth was about to drop open. Juliet didn't know about the black smoke? She was basically like Jack .. clueless about it. Wow. This was a first, not too good for Jack as there was no chance of getting answers about it, but he still couldn't believe it. If Juliet didn't know anything about it, who would? Ben? Jack could ask Ben about it, it's not like he would get an answer, but he could try.
"You really don't know anything about it?" Jack asked, still in a little shock. He had guessed that all her people knew everything about this island. Otherwise, why would they be here? Jack knew if he was in there position he would demand answers. Do they just take orders from Ben and not question him at all? This was a lot for Jack to take in, it showed one of there weakness'. If anything went wrong he could use this, but he should be leaving this island soon enough!
