Desmond's vision blurred, and everything was either moving at a hugely quick pace, or a painfully slow one. He caught glimpses of people, Jack, Charlie, all shadows. He heard snatches of conversation, more shadows. He heard a manic clicking and whirring noise, like a machine, but it was also quite song-like, but far from soothing. Suddenly, everything stopped. He was standing in the jungle, he could feel the uneven ground beneath his feet, looking up he saw the dizzying heights of the tree, and looking across the clearing he stood in, he saw a dark, black shape, but as soon as he saw it, it slunk away.
He chased it, and running felt like a chore, as it is in a dream. He could only keep it in his sight for a few seconds before losing it again, and branches slapped and scratched his arms and face, the exposed skin red with scrapes. He stopped sharp and nearly fell over, seeing the smoke hovering before somebody, between Desmond and the other human shape. Quietly, he side-stepped the bulk of the smoke and saw...
"Charlie--!"
Desmond sat up abruptly, in the exact same place he had been that morning, lying under his canvas, except this time, he was drenched in cold sweat and shaking. That must have been another vision. He hated how they left him, but worst of all he hated what they showed him. He'd been too late to save Charlie in the vision, as time and time before he hadn't managed to during previous ones. Now, he was posed with the task of saving Charlie's life. He wasn't going to let him die.
Jack had been in that vision. Desmond could only just remember him. Charlie had tripped and sprained his ankle or something, and Jack had definitely been there, helping him up and checking him over. If Desmond was going to save Charlie, Jack had to be there.
Getting up rapidly, Desmond glanced around, panicked. He spotted Jack, and he didn't care what he was busy doing, this was more important. He couldn't know about the visions, but he had to come with him.
"J-Jack!" Desmond managed, taking off at a run, closing the distance between them both.

Jack hadn't been doing much, he was just looking around the food section trying to find something for tonight. Him and Juliet had planned to have dinner together tonight, so he thought he might as well try and do something special for the both of them. But with the range of products they had on the shelves, the meal may not be as great as Jack had hoped for.
He reached up for one of the huge cans on the top shelf, bringing it down he noticed it was "Dharma Mixed Vegetables". This would do. All he needed now was some meat, and the best meat was when someone went hunting and got a boar. No one had been out in the jungle recently, so maybe he would have to stick with some of the "Dharma Beef". This wasn't the greatest meat, but it would have to do.
Now, drinks! Jack looked around at some of the bottles of wine. But before he got a chance to pick one, he heard someone shouting his name. It was a recognizable voice, the man that had not been on the plane crash with the rest of them ... Desmond.
Turning around Jack saw the sweat pouring off of Desmond's face, had he been running? "What's wrong?" Jack asked, wondering if he needed Jack for his medical experience. Maybe someone was hurt, or worse.

"What? Oh, ha, nothin', nothin' at all! Just wanted to er...talk to ya, if y'have the time o'course..." Desmond breathed. He couldn't blow it now. He'd have to act casual. Invite Jack to go with them. It had been daylight in his vision, but it could have easily been tomorrow's daylight. There was no way he could tell for sure, but then again, if it was to all happen, it would be revealed in time.
"Ah, I was wonderin' if y'wanted to come along with me 'nd Charlie..." Bad move. Charlie had no idea about it, and if Jack asked him, he'd say something along the lines of, "What are you on about? I'm going nowhere with Desmond, why'd you ask?" It'd have to do though, he could possibly be able to pull Charlie in and ask him to go once he had moved away from Jack with the answer he was looking for.
He wasn't doing this very well. He looked more than suspicious, but hopefully Jack would overlook that.

Jack had noticed that Desmond had been acting very strange recently. Not just today, he had been spending a lot more time with Charlie and Hurley, maybe they were just trying to get a long. Jack felt he was being too paranoid, and he had asked Desmond to invite him a long on his next camping trip.
"Where you going?" Jack asked, he had already made plans, but he wasn't sure if Desmond had meant today or they could be back by night fall. Whatever the case was, Jack was certainly interested. Lately people had been giving him weird looks and not been talking to him much, it was almost like no one trusted him. Due to this he had been spending a lot more time with Juliet, she was one of the few people who enjoyed his company now.
Jack placed the food down on the table and picked up his bottle of water. He took a long drink and listened to what Desmond had to say, this could be something to get back in people's good books. If he showed that he was the same guy he always was, Jack would win the back.

"Ah, we were just gonna go for a little trip, y'know, like the good ol' days. We never go anywhere anymore, and you were int'rested in our next one, so better now than never, eh?" Desmond replied, scratching the back of his head and raising his eyebrows. Jack seemed genuinely interested, and Desmond felt guilty that he was only asking him to tag along because he was in his vision and had to be there. He had always got on reasonably well with the doctor, and had seem the way the others had shunned him for befriending Juliet and for accepting to co-operate with the Others on several occasions.
Hell, they might even tie up a few loose ends and get to know each other even better along the way, even with the smoke creature looming near. Jack had to help him with Charlie's fate. He knew Charlie would come along, he was in the vision wasn't he? So there was nothing to worry about there, thank God.
"We'll probably decide where to camp when we get there, you know, see where we think is best...would you be prepared to set off...say...today?" Desmond added, looking at his feet and kicking at the dirt-ridden sand. He thought he heard that mechanical clicking, like the ticking of a clock, and he whirled around, only to see nothing. He was being too jumpy. He looked back to Jack and laughed. "Thought I saw somethin', aye," he said, a weak excuse but it had been said now.

Jack thought about it, he could either say no and spend the evening with Juliet. Or say yes and spend the night in the creepy jungle with Charlie and Desmond. It was a tough decision. As much as Jack thought he would regret this, he had to choose the night in the woods. He needed to get back involved in the camp's going on, try and hang out with them more and get involved. This was his chance!
"Sure brother" Jack said, he thought about it for a moment or two. "Give me, say ... half an hour to grab some things. That ok with you?" Jack thought he needed the time to explain to Juliet about why he wasn't cooking tonight like promised, and then pack his rucksack with supplies.
"Meet back here?" Jack said, he hadn't seen Charlie yet, but Desmond must have informed him about this already. Otherwise it would be "Do you want to come along with me ..." Not that it made much difference to Jack.

"Yep, that's absolutely great, really great! Meet back here in half an hour then! I'm just gonna go get...get ready, if y'don't mind!" Desmond said, backing away and when he had finished speaking, turned around and jogged away at first, then picking up the pace. He couldn't risk yelling out to Charlie, he could only scout the area and ask about if anyone had seen him. He'd insist it was urgent and everything similar, but he doubted he'd get a very good response. He also didn't want to go too far into the jungle.
Thinking about it now, that could be what happens. He went to find Charlie, Jack waited around and then followed, and then it all went on from there. Thinking fourth dimensionally was confusing and annoying, but sometimes he had to stay one step ahead with these visions.
"Has anyone seen Charlie?" he yelled as quietly as he could to a group of survivors, each in turn shaking their heads. Dammit. Whenever he wanted to find Charlie, he was nowhere to be found, and whenever he didn't want to interact with him, he cropped up anyway. He had half an hour to seek, locate and persuade.

[[OOC: You may want to send a PM to the new Charlie, just letting him know he is needed]]
Jack gave a quick smile before turning and walking back to his tent. Desmond seemed pleased that Jack was coming along, very pleased, but that was Desmond. As Jack arrived at his tent he noticed Juliet not to far away, so he thought now would be a good a time as any to tell her. She would understand, he knew it, Juliet was a very understanding person.
After he explained he went back to his tent and began packing his bag. He needed things like water, food, maybe a blanket, pillows, flash light and anything else that may prove useful. He was definitely taking along his gun, the last thing Jack wanted to happen was the damn Other's coming after them. He didn't want any trouble on this trip, but it seemed that trouble just followed Jack.

((OOC: Just read the PM and posting before I get to school, so sorry if it seems short and rushed.))
Charlie patted little baby Aaron on his back as Claire was taking a nap in her tent. She'd been sleeping a lot lately, but anyone would if they had to take care of a baby on a deserted island.
Aaron burped and Charlie congratulated him. "Good job, Turnip Head." Aaron cooed and Charlie placed him back in the crib.
Aaron fell right asleep and Charlie sighed. "Now I got nothing to do," he thought, slightly disappointed and bored. He sat in the sand and looked out into the ocean.

Desmond stumbled on through the sand and fell over in the shallows occasionally, only to trip over again. He knew he was rushing and moving too hastily, and he had never been known to panic over a vision before, but this one was more terrifying than the others. He looked up through salty eyes. They were stinging and watering, but he could see the figure of Charlie, sitting on the same sandbank that he usually found himself on.
"Ch-Charlie!" Desmond coughed, rubbing his eyes and throwing himself back onto the sand instead on nearly tumbling into the surf. He got up, half wet, with sand now weighing down his trousers. He dashed towards Charlie and then slowed down, struggling to centre his breathing and regulate it. He was strolling now, as if he hadn't been charging along the shoreline for the last few minutes.
"Hey, brother, doin' anythin' special?" he began, sitting down next to him with a suspicious grin.

"Desmond seems awfully weird today," Charlie commented to himself as Des sat down next to him.
Hey, brother, doin' anythin' special?
"No, just looking after little Aaron," Charlie nodded his head towards the sleeping infant. "Why you ask?"

"Really? That's great. Ah, I was wondrin' if ye wanna come with me 'n' Jack on a little camping trip...No catch, just us three telling ghost stories into the night," Desmond explained, running a hand through his hair. Of course there was a catch, but if he told Charlie, well he'd refuse to go. He had managed it before, so he could do it again. No problem. He only had to hope Charlie would accept, and not reject.
He grinned and waited for a response. Charlie was a mate of his, probably the closest mate he had ever had. That was why his resolution was so sturdy to stop him from coming to any harm. Desmond gazed out towards the horizon. He turned again to Charlie, and then stood up. If he did that, Charlie had less time to think on his answer. "I told Jack I'd meet him back at the tents, I got fifteen minutes to get ready, and so do you," he said, with a friendly enough smile.

Charlie liked the idea. Ever since everyone knew about the Others, everyone's been so tense, and having sticks up their bums. This seemed like the perfect opprotunity to have some fun with Desmond and Jack, without it turning into a drama-filled quest.
I told Jack I'd meet him back at the tents, I got fifteen minutes to get ready, and so do you.
"Uh, all right," Charlie smiled back. "I'll go get ready then."

"Good stuff! See ya in a few then, eh?" Desmond replied, waving back at Charlie and setting off a little slower this time down the beach. Upon reaching his tent, he rummaged around for a few things. He grabbed an old, raggedy rucksack and threw in a spare blanket, and another to pose as a pillow, a bottle of water and a few Dharma labeled packets of food. He zipped it all up, and then his tired eyes caught the sight of the old revolver that he had hidden under his makeshift bed.
He had never told a soul about the old gun he had found lying in the jungle, and didn't intend to unless he had to use it. It had been re-loaded, and still had all six shells left, which was handy. He had scouted about for some sort of remains, tracks, a body, but nothing was there, so he didn't feel too guilty picking it up. He shoved it under his belt and pulled his t-shirt over it, smiling slyly. He slung the old rucksack over his shoulder, and made his way back to the meeting point that Jack had said to return to, the "kitchen." Now it was only a matter of waiting for the other two impatiently.

Jack was all ready and walked over to where they had planned to meet with his rucksack on his shoulders. Jack had wondered what had gotten into Desmond lately, all he remembered off Desmond was the drunk that hated this island. Now he was constantly going on treks and camping trips, it would good to see him getting out more and enjoying himself, but Jack couldn't help but wonder why.
As he arrived at the kitchen-area he noticed Desmond already waiting. Giving a small nod towards him he got closer and asked "Where's Charlie?" Jack thought the two of them would have arrived together, they had been hanging around a lot more. Again, this seemed strange, but Jack wasn't going to question it. He thought if everyone was getting along there was no reason Jack should complain. Live together, die alone.

Once Desmond had left Charlie alone, he took a little piece of paper and pencil and wrote on it for Claire: "Going with Des and Jack on a little hike. Be back soon. See ya, Charlie."
He placed the note on top of Aaron's crib so she could see it and set off for his tent. Once he was there, he started to pile things in his knapsack. "Water, a blanket and pillow, a knife--just in case," he said aloud, stuffing them into the sack. "That should do it," he closed the sack.
Charlie slung the knapsack over his shoulders and began to walk over to the kitchen, where he thought Des and Jack might have been. Charlie and Des became friends after that day where the sky turned purple and there was no more hatch. Now Des had to live here, but they soon hit it off being the British that they were (okay, a Brit and a Scot).
Where's Charlie?
Once Charlie heard that, he knew that was Jack. He'd found them. "Hey, Jack," Charlie greeted him, walking up beside him.

"Alrigh' Jack, Charlie? We'd better get goin'," Desmond stated, adjusting the straps of his backpack and flashing a quick smile at the other two before setting off. He hated rushing, but he had no idea whether his vision was set today, or tomorrow. If they got there today, it wouldn't be a problem and all they had to do was wait, if it was tomorrow. He much prefer it to be today, camping out in the jungle didn't appeal too much.
He saw in Jack's eyes and expression that he was holding in a lot of questions, and Desmond didn't blame him. He was jumpy, panicked, constantly acting in a way that only roused suspicion, but Jack couldn't know why, Desmond wouldn't be able to bear telling him. He hoped he'd just take it for a bit of trauma after turning the failsafe and being one of those caught in the hatch explosion. He also hoped Charlie wouldn't drop hints or say it outright in that unique way of his. Hurley may have mentioned it to Jack, but Jack was a man of science, not of faith, and visions of the future might be a little too far-fetched for him to grasp.

"Charlie" Jack said nodding at him. Looked like they were all here, and with no messing around, they were off! Jack followed Desmond, walking at a slightly quicker pace so that he could stand by the side of him. He caught up easily enough although Desmond did seem to be in some kind of rush.
"So you know where we heading to? Or you just seeing what takes your fancy?" Jack asked. Maybe Desmond had found a place where he thought would be idea for camping, Jack had no idea as he hadn't really asked that many questions. Jack didn't mind either way, he was just here to enjoy himself.
He took one last look back at camp before they entered the jungle, he hoped nothing major would happen in his absence. It had died down recently and everyone had been getting along a lot more, but still ... he had a funny feeling about this trip.

"Nah I dunno where we could head...I was hopin' you'd give us some suggestions. You've been in the jungle more often that I..." Desmond responded, watching that black screen and those green numbers roll across it in his mind's eye. He shook his head and the image melted away. He had to get out more.
He wanted to just enjoy the trip for once. That was all he asked, just to have fun with a couple of the guys. That mercy wasn't to be bestowed upon him anymore than him returning to the hatch to punch in the numbers and hit the button. It simply would never happen. He didn't want to spend the rest of his time here wondering what the next vision would show him, who was going to die next, how they would die, what they would say. He knew about dejá vu, but this was ridiculous.

It was true, Jack had been out here a lot .. probably more than anyone else in the camp. Then again, Kate did seem to go on a lot of treks, but that was beside the point. He now had to think of a place to go, he looked all around, see if he could think of anywhere which would be a good place to set up camp.
"I think the best thing is to just keep walking and see where that leads us" Jack said, he had no idea where would be a good place to go. So instead of disappointing the group, he thought he would be better to see where the wind took them. "That ok with you Charlie?" Jack tried to get him more involved in there conversation, he must have felt a little left out, them talking away and almost ignoring Charlie. He was a good guy, so Jack thought he should do that right thing and bring him back into the conversation.
