(second post, still exciting!)
Nadia opened her eyes.
She looked around, noticing that she was in her tent, leaning against one of the trees that propped it up. Realizing she must have dozed off while reading her book. It still lay in her right hand, flopped over, and opened a third of the way through.
She rubbed her neck, which had cramped slightly from the odd position. But she would be fine.
Getting up, she brushed the sand off her legs and stepped outside. The sun was high in the sky, and she could feel the heat shining down on her.

((Hope ya don't mind me replyin'!))
"Shoot!" Addy muttered under her breath as she watched a seagull crookedly fly away from her tent and off toward the beach. She had been trying to capture the poor thing because she noticed its wing was bent at an odd angle. Being the animal activist she is, Addy had wanted to help it, but the stupid bird just wouldn't stay in one spot!
You'd think it couldn't go far with a broken wing! thought Addy as she started to walk off toward where the bird had flown off to. Birds are so stupid! I can't see why anyone would want to study ornithology for a living, she thought with a shake of her head.
Before she had gotten too far down the beach, Addy had an idea. She wouldn't be able to get this stubborn seagull by herself. She'd need help. She looked around the beach for someone, anyone, who didn't seem very busy. That's when she spotted... oh, what was her name?... Nadia! Or was it Nadine...? That didn't really matter, though.
Addy walked over to where she saw Nadia (or Nadine) standing in front of her tent. "Hey," she greeted with a friendly smile. She would have added the other woman's name to the greeting, but she didn't want to say the wrong one and then look like a complete idiot.
"I was wondering, if you weren't too busy or anything, if you'd mind helping me try to get that bird over there?" she asked, gesturing toward the seagull that was wading in the surf. Even from here Addy could see that its wing was definitely not right.
She turned her attention back to the woman (whatever her name may be), making sure she was standing in a way so that she could hear her answer. Addy had taken out one of her hearing aids to save the life of the batteries, and that meant she had to pay extra close attention in conversations. She hadn't told anyone yet that she was deaf, but she thought that people may be starting to think that there was something weird about her, especially since she had to ask people to repeat what they said a lot. It was a hassle, but Addy put up with it. For now.

(Ha, I don't mind at all!)
It wasn't long before she saw a woman run up to her, saying hey.
"Hello," Nadia said back with a smile. But it didn't look like greeting her was her intentions. She indicated a poor little seagull on the beach, and Nadia could see that the wing had been broken.
"I was wondering, if you weren't too busy or anything, if you'd mind helping me try to get that bird over there?" she asked. Nadia looked at the bird, noting its movements. It was still pretty lively, so she doubted it had been too badly hurt. Nonetheless, this meant that it would be a challenge to catch.
She hated seeing anyone in pain, animal or human. She knew she would do what she could to help, so her response was simple to make.
"Sure," she said, almost relieved to have something to do. "Any ideas on how to catch it, though?" she asked, looking back to the bird.

Addy gave a small smile. "That's where I have been having problems," she admitted, running a hand through her brown hair. Birds were tricky to catch to begin with; they had monocular vision so they could see almost all around them without moving their head. She was sure they had a blind spot directly in front of them, but birds moved their heads too often to be able to sneak up on them that precisely.
"I was thinking of a net of some sort," she said. "But I am not sure if that would just put it in more pain or not," she added after she thought about the net idea. Addy was just worried about making the birds situation even worse than it already was. It had a broken wing, she wasn't about to do something even more horrible to it.
And even if they did end up catching it, how was she going to fix the wing? She couldn't sedate it, she had not material to make casts, and it probably wouldn't stay in one spot long enough to apply a splint. Oh well... she was sure that they would come up with something.
"Do you have any ideas?" she asked, turning back to Nadine. Nadine didn't sound right; maybe Nadia was her name. Oh, screw it, she thought to herself. Just ask.
"And, I feel awful for asking, but what's your name? I know it starts with an N..." Not that it helped her at all! Geez! You'd think that living with these people for so long you'd start to know all their names! But no... Addy still had problems with some of them. How stupid.

Nadia laughed at the woman's last words. "It's Nadia," she said, offering her hand. "Nice to meet you....er...."
It was then that she realized that she did not know her name either! She must have heard it somewhere, but where?
Looking back to the bird, which had marched a little ways further down the shore, she began wondering about catching it. "We could wait for it to go to sleep," she suggested, but thought it a waste of time the moment the words were out of her mouth.
"Well, it's already wounded, and my guess is that it can't fly," she finally pointed out. "If we head for it from different directions, we should be able to corner it off."
It sounded easy enough, but what was she thinking? She had never went looking for birds before in her life. Humans were a much different, and much easier, thing to deal with. But she had no idea how the bird would react to two women coming after it.

Addy smiled and shook Nadia's hand as it was offered. "I'm Addy," she said, glad that she wasn't the only one who didn't know everyone's name on this stupid island.
When Nadia suggested waiting until the bird fell asleep, she actually thought about it for a moment. Then she realized that it wouldn't work. "Seagulls are diurnal; they won't go to sleep until the sun goes down," she commented, mostly talking to herself about the issue.
"Well, it's already wounded, and my..."
Addy started hearing static in her hearing aid. Great!, she thought, bringing her hand up to her ear and pretending to scratch it. In reality she was trying to jog the aid so that it'd stop sending static. Addy was glad that the interference usually wasn't loud enough to be heard by other people, but she really had no idea if Nadia had heard it or not. She kept her eyes on Nadia's lips so she could at least catch what she was saying. After a moment, her hearing aid started working properly again and she could actually hear what was being said.
"...different directions, we should be able to corner it off."
She gave a small nod, thinking that she had heard enough to understand what the idea was. "Yeah, that might actually work," she said, thinking about it. "And even if it does try to fly away, it isn't going to get far." Addy turned and looked at the bird. "It sounds like a good plan."

Nadia looked over at the bird, wondering what be the best angle to nab it from. "I'll take the rear, you come up front," she told Addy, as she began to slowly get behind the bird.
She kept her eye on it, noticing the wing. It was definitely broken, as it was just dragging on the ground.
She had came after many individuals in this manner, and had been triumphant a little more than half of the time. But this was a bird, so she figured it would be simple.
Beginning to creep forward, Nadia waited for it to notice one of them.

Addy circled around the bird, coming up in the opposite direction as Nadia. She walked slowly, knowing that birds were easily startled.
As she and Nadia both crept closer to the seagull, the bird cocked its head and studied her, not yet noticing the other woman approaching from the rear. Addy tried speaking gently to the bird, hoping it wouldn't try and hop away. But as she just got closer, that's exactly what it did.
The bird hopped away from Addy, flapping its good wing to try and lift itself off the ground. It was no use, of course. She took quicker steps, noticing that the bird was hopping right in Nadia's direction. Between the two women and the ocean, the bird didn't have anywhere to go. "Try and grab it!" said Addy. The bird was closer to the other woman than it was to her, so Nadia would probably have better luck at trying to grab it than she would at the moment.

Nadia lunged for the bird, hoping she was quicker than the little bird....
SUCCESS!
She grabbed the bird from underneath, picking it up and covering it with her arms. The bird was shrieking as she expected it would, but it appeared too weak to fly away. Though that beak looked awfully sharp....
She examined the bird's wing, and motioned for Addy to come closer. Getting a better look now that the bird was stationary, she could see that the wing was rather crooked.
"Do you think we can help it out?" she asked Addy, hoping she would have the answer.

((Sorry for the late reply... been kinda busy.))
Addy grinned as Nadia grabbed the bird. Finally! She walked closer to the other woman as she kept hold of the shrieking seagull. She just hoped that Nadia wouldn't loosen her grip and let the bird go.
Taking a closer look at the wing, it was obvious to her that it was broken. Addy's mind was already formulating ways to help it heal; it would take a couple weeks, but it would help the bird out.
She gave Nadia a nod. "Yeah, I think we can fix it," she said. Addy reached into her pockets to see if she had a handkerchief of any sort, but she didn't. "You wouldn't happen to have a bandanna or handkerchief on you, would you?" she asked. Addy needed something to blindfold the bird with; if the seagull couldn't see anything, it would calm down a lot and be so much easier to handle. But she didn't have anything to cover its eyes with.
"We can take it back up to one of the tents and get some sturdy sticks and something to wrap the wing up in," she said, mostly talking to herself. She could make a splint for the bird, but then the wing would have to be tied against the body so it wouldn't get worse. At least, that's the method she'd learned from a professor in college.
It shouldn't be too difficult.

(Sorry for being late myself. Same reason.....)
Nadia held onto the bird as Addy came over and examined it.
"You wouldn't happen to have a bandanna or handkerchief on you, would you?"
Nadia thought for a moment, wondering if she had anything like that. She didn't have anything on her person, but there could be some cloths in her nearby tent.
"We can take up to my tent," Nadia said to Addy, motioning to it. "I'll see if I can find a cloth to wrap around the wing," she added. "There should be something lying around in there."
With that, she carried the now very nervous bird on over to her tent. "Do you think he'll be all right?" she asked Addy. She wasn't too sure of what she did in the real world, but she figured she would have a better idea at answering the question than she would.

Addy followed Nadia over to her tent so they could find some materials to work with.
"Do you think he'll be all right?"
Addy looked at the bird again before giving a small nod. "With a splint and plenty of rest, I think it'll be fine. Just looks like a small fracture to me." She didn't think that fixing the wing was going to be too hard, but it was hard to tell. After all, wings were difficult to deal with.
"We need something to cover up its eyes," she mentioned, looking around the tent to see if she could see anything. Addy didn't want to go rooting through Nadia's stuff, especially since she didn't know her very well. "Then a couple of sticks and strips of cloth." If needed, Addy could get a shirt from her tent; it was old anyway and she wouldn't mind if it got tore up.
She saw the bird try to struggle out of Nadia's grasp. "D'you want me to take it?" she asked, not sure if the other woman would be up to the task of restraining the seagull.

"Right," Nadia said, thinking of what she had stashed in her tent. "I'll see if I can find something."
When Addy offered to take the bird, Nadia nodded. She could keep the bird from running off, but Addy seemed like the better candidate for fixing it up. "Go ahead," Nadia replied. She placed the bird on the ground, and waited for Addy to take a hold of it.
She had a suitcase stashed in the corner, where she kept her clothes. There must have been something to cover a bird's eyes in there somewhere. Opening up the case, she saw a few tops and a pair of jeans. Rooting through the bag further, she came across an old shirt. It was solid white, and a little too small for her liking. It seemed perfect.
She grabbed the shirt and showed it to Addy. "How about this?" she asked.
She then looked over to her sleeping back. There could be something over there as well, but she knew that her gun was sitting there. She didn't want anyone to know she had it, including Addy. So she stuck to the items lying around the suitcase, although she was beginning to think that she wouldn't be finding any sticks around there.

((So uhh... my dog ate the part of my brain that contained the existence of this thread. Then I was busy. So... yeah. I'm sorry. *hangs head in shame* Just please don't kill me. )) Addy quickly took hold of the bird as Nadia set it down, not wanting it to get away after they had worked so hard to capture it in the first place. The seagull squawked in protest, but Addy kept a firm hold on it, making sure that she wasn't hurting its wing in any way. When Nadia showed her the shirt she'd found, Addy gave her a nod and a smile. "That'll work wonderfully," she said. "Now uhh..." She looked down at her hands, both of which were busy holding onto the scared and angry bird. "Would you mind just kind of tying it around its eyes? Animals are calmer if they can't see what's happening, so this will make the bird easier to work with," she explained.
