Piper ran her fingers though her tangled locks, trying hard to bush out the knots and make herself presentable.
Not that it matters anyway she thought bitterly, looking down the scenic beach towards camp. They’d been here at least two weeks since the crash, maybe more-she tried not to count.
As had become custom with her, she sat down on the beach, absorbing the suns early rays as the waves crashed against the sandy shore, creating a strange song of their own with each crash.
Her eyes scanned the horizon, searching for some sign of civilization, but as usual there was none. It scared her to think of the day when she would give up looking.
Don’t be silly, they're going to find us!
She had to keep telling herself that.
Turning to look at the camp, she spotted who she thought was Kate. She didn’t know many of the survivors, after the crash she’d kept to herself, not really wanting to talk. Sure she’d sat around the campfire and listened to everyone talk about the things they were gonna do when they got back home, but she wasn’t going to go back home. She didn’t want to.
She watched as Kate fiddled with her tent, trying to fix it. Kate was the only survivor she knew reasonably well, and it was only because she’d needed help once and Piper had been the only one around. She liked Kate, she reminded her of her mother, though she couldn’t figure out why.
Sighing she turned her attention back to the sea.
