Hurley tapped on his CD player. He shook it. He examined it. Finally, he took off the head-phones. "Son of a b!tch." He muttered. He stood and walked toward the camp. Although his CD player had broken months ago, he had hoped the batteries he found would make it work. They were AAAs. He needed AAs. He put the CD player in his pocket and walked into the camp. Lucy sat out on the beach, indian style and her hands in her jacket pockets. She looked out on the ocean as her black hood was over her head. Red strains of her hair blew in the wind as she looked out and thought of home. She then felt her ring inside her pocket on her finger and missed her family more.
She heard the waves crash onto the sand and roll back into the open sea as she looked up into the sky. Clouds rolling in on the island.

Hurley walked toward the boar being cooked. It smelled heavenly. Man, why did I get rid of my secret stash? Ketchup would've been a need-now! He walked toward the beach and saw a girl looking out to sea. He walked forward and asked.
"Dude, do you have AA batteries?"

Laura looked up and saw Hurley, one of the other survivors looking down at her. She thought to herself and go up from her spot.
"Yeah, I tihnk I have some from my bag. I'll get it for you." Laura replied as she shoved her hands in her pockets and started walking to camp.

"Hey Hurley," Jane said as she appraoched him from behind. She didn't want to startle him, what with all the unexpected things that happened around here.
"What's going on? Making new friends?" Jane asked with a grin.

Hurley smiled at Jane. "Yeah, she's getting me some AA batteries. For my..." If Hurley said CD player, he would probably have to give it up to Sayid for a radio thing. "Shaver! It's out of batteries." Hurley grimaced. The other guys would probably ask him to either give that up or worse. Share it.

"Ah Hurley, I wouldn't worry too much about shaving if I were you," Jane smirked. "I think a beard becomes you."
Jane had a feeling by the way Hurley said "shaver" that he really wasn't asking for batteries for an electric razor. Besides, none of them were winning any beauty contests around here. They were lucky to have the ocean to bathe in and do their laundry. Some people used to go to the hatch occasionally to shower and use the washer, but Jane tended to stick to the beach. Especially these days.
"How have you been Hurley? You've been so busy getting vans started and such lately, I think I've missed seeing you around the beach very much."

Hurley half smiled. It was true he was trying to fix the old van he had found in the jungle, but he had an alternative motive. One the others didn't know about. He wanted to fix the van, in hopes that he could show the others he was OK. He felt like he had to continually prove himself, that he had to continue to show that he was sorry for coming on that plane. On flight 815. Hurley knew that because he was cursed, that because he had used the numbers to win money, he had caused the plane wreck. For that, he felt he had to prove to them that he wasn't a bad guy. Just surrounded by bad luck.
"Hey, we did get it fixed, do you two want a ride?" Hurley said, motioning to Laura and Jane. "Could be fun."

"A ride in what?" Piper asked, coming up behind Hurley, Laura and Jane.
She felt a little rude for butting in, but that part of the conversation had caught her interest as she walked by. Besides, it wasn't like there was anything else to do.
Feeling a little awkward because she didn't know them well, she shoved her hands in her pockets.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I just.....you said it could be fun." she finished a little lamely. "I haven't had fun in a while...so..." she trailed off, waiting for them to tell her what they'd been talking about.

"You know, I think a ride in your van sounds like fun, Hurley! Piper is right. We need to stir things up around here."
Jane saw Piper approach them. She completely understood what went unsaid in Piper's comment. None of them had been having any fun. They needed the break. Laura had been awfully quiet, but even if she didn't come, the three of them could enjoy a ride in the van. It was a modern convenience none of them had the joy of experiencing in what seemed like forever.

"You have a van?" Piper asked in amazement, jaw dropping.
She couldn't remember ever hearing anything about a van, but now she hoped with all her might it was true.
"A van, like, a working van?" she asked in excitement. She couldn't contain herself now.
"Oh lets go! Please." she paused before adding, "can I drive? I never got my licence back home but like that's gonna stop me!"
She said this last part in a rush, and was aware of how dramatically she'd just come out of her shell. For weeks she'd been shy, never talking more than a few sentences, but now she was almost jumping up and down with excitement.
But she'd always been strange like that. Now she stood there...trying hard to contain her excitement for something that a few months ago would have been boring to her.

Laura shrugged with her hands in her pockets and she smiled.
"A ride in the van sounds cool to me." Laure replied, speaking out from being quiet the whole time. She then looked at her suitcase next to them and found the AA's.
"Here ya go buddy." Laura replied, handing Hurley the batteries.

"Thanks, dude!" Hurley said, stuffing the AA batteries into his pocket and turning back to Laura, he said, "You're OK." To the new girl, he said, "Sure, you can have a turn, but it's kinda hard to get started, and it usually has to be pushed up a hill and ridden down. So, what's the wait?" He turned and started walking into the jungle. (Continued in: Just Another Day In The Jungle)
