It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was shining bright and there was a light breeze. Libby had slept in that morning and had been up for about an hour. She had eaten a piece of fruit and taken a walk down the beach in the time since she had awakened.
She wasn't quite sure what to do now. Everything that Libby was used to doing in her spare time was getting a little boring. Right when she began to come back to the camp on the beach, she thought about something. Libby remembered the garden. The one that Sun had been working so hard on to grow the plants and keep them up. Libby knew that this was what Sun enjoyed doing, but, maybe she wouldn't mind a little help. Or even if she didn't really NEED it, maybe she would let Libby help her out just for the heck of it.
Libby made her way to the garden to find that Sun wasn't there at the time. She looked around and admired the beauty of it for a moment. Even though it wasn't a flower garden, the different plants in their neat little rows still looked appealing to the eye. Libby noticed a few sticks and twigs around the garden and began to pick them up and throw them out into the bushes surrounding it. She hoped that Sun wouldn't mind her messing around her garden. After all, she wasn't really messing, more like, cleaning.
Then, after about 2 minutes, she heard someone coming through the bushes from the direction of the beach. She turned around to see who was there.

The sun was high in the sky as Sun set out for the garden. It would be a nice day to put some work into it, and maybe make some room for some new entries to it.
She hadn't seen Jin for awhile, but he was probably just out fishing. He would know where to find her, nonetheless.
Moving some bushes out of the way, Sun stepped into the garden. To her surprise, there was already someone there. Libby, one of the survivors from the tail section.
"Oh, hello, Libby," Sun said with a smile. She didn't know why she was there, but she had her assumptions.

Libby put a relieved smile on her face when she saw Sun. On this island, you could never be quite sure who, or what, you'd see coming through the bushes.
"Hi Sun. I'm glad to see you." Libby tossed the pile of sticks in her hands to the side and walked over to Sun. "I hoped you wouldn't mind, I was just straightening up the garden. " She looked around. The garden looked slightly neater now. "Actually, I was going to ask you if you would like a little help now and then. You know, like planting more seeds and keeping up what's already planted. I know it must be a lot of work and lately I've had nothing better to do."

"I don't mind at all," Sun said, looking at the garden. It sure did look a lot neater, and more appealing to the eye. But it still needed work.
"And I wouldn't mind any help at all," she told Libby. "There is too much to do around here for just one person." She noted a few weeds growing on the far side, near where she was hoping to start growing some tomatoes. That was the most likely spot to expand, though at the moment she was concentrating on sustaining what was already there. Yes, a few extra hands would be nice.
"Thank you," she said, as she pulled out the first weed.

Libby smiled. She was glad that now she would have something to do. Libby smiled, "Great." She got down on her knees beside the weeds and started pulling. They weren't too far into the ground so it didn't take much effort to pull them up.
"You know its kinda weird, but nothing exciting has really been going on in the past week or so." She looked over at Sun to see what her reaction would be. "I mean, not everybody knows about everything that goes on, but as far as I do know, it's really been almost too calm and quiet around here. Like the silence you get before something really bad happens. Ya know?"
Libby was thinking that it might be a little silly to think like that. After all, those kinds of things only happened in movies. Although, as much of an unreality that this island was, it wouldn't be to far fetched to think like that.

When Libby said that nothing much had happened on the island, Sun nodded. Although she was glad that nothing horrible had happened, she was still disappointed that their chance of rescue hadn't seem to change, either.
When she heard Libby's next words, hoping that they would not be true. "It's best not to think that way, Libby," she said. "Otherwise you would go crazy."
With that, she pulled out another weed. It wasn't hard at all, and she started to think that the two of them would have the garden cleaned up in almost no time at all.
"Who knows, maybe it's the silence before something good," she added.

Libby looked up at Sun with a slight smile. Sun always seemed to have a positive look at things. "Yeah, I guess it could go that way, too......" She paused for a minute, "........or let's at least hope it does." Libby usually thought on the bright side as well. She was probably one of the brightest people on the island. Yet, for some reason, lately she had many doubts. After a second or two, she perked up and looked at Sun. "You know what, I've gotta quit this. I'm going to think positive, positive, positive from now on." She was glad that she had just let her doubtfulness be known to Sun and no one else. Libby wouldn't want to dampen anybody's spirits. Anyway, people seemed to be doing fine, so why ruin it? She smiled then resumed her task,

Jane overheard some of Libby and Sun's conversation. She used to be positive, too. Didn't she? Jane wondered about the changes that had happened to her over the past several weeks. She had become more withdrawn and spent a lot more time out on her own. It was almost like she wanted to be killed or captured by he Others now. And maybe she did. Jane had lost all of the hope she once held in her heart for new beginnings and the idea that her cursed life didn't apply here. If there was one thing Jane was sure was true, however, it was that no one gets a fresh start. No one.
"Hi," Jane said weakly and came from the jungle cover. "I didn't mean to interrupt. I was just coming to look for something to eat." Jane pointed to the small amount of fruit that was hanging from the higher branches of the tree overhead.
"I'll just be a minute."

Sun smiled as Libby let her worries fade. Although it always a good thing to be cautious, it would not be healthy to allow worries to overcome your every thought. Perhaps that was why she started working on the garden in the first place-to get some of the negatives out of her head.
Sun soon heard a rustling in the nearby bushes, and looked out. Could it be one of the Others?
"Hi," was what she heard. It was Jane! Sun let out a little sigh, and greeted her back. "Hello, Jane."
She listened as Jane explained what she was doing. Sun looked up at the fruit in the tree. It seemed odd for Jane to come out to the garden to get something that could be found on most trees on the island. Although, they had been there awhile, so perhaps food was gowing short.

Jane could read the look on Sun's face. She didn't understand why Jane had come here for food. It was no wonder really. Jane knew she used to be the one who went everywhere on the island without fear. Not now, though. Jane had become much more cautious and introverted, although she didn't expect anyone to have noticed.
"I didn't want to go too far today," Jane said giving a simple explanation for her behavior. She flashed a smile that probably looked genuinely happy and started toward the tree.

Libby smiled at Jane. "I don't blame you." Libby continued to pick up around the garden. "So what have you been up to lately Jane? Anything worth sharing?" This was good, maybe Libby could engage in a little conversation with another woman her age. Sun never really talked too much around her as far as deep conversations went. So it was good to see someone else come into the picture.

"Just a few trees," Jane smiled. "Believe it or not, I haven't been on a single adventure in weeks. The farthest I go these days is to the golf course."
Jane paused before climbing. She thought talking to Libby could help her if she let it. Then again, she'd seen so many psychologists after her brother died, Jane wasn't sure they really even helped her then. That didn't bode well for one helping her now. Maybe Libby was different? Jane knew for certain this island was like nothing she'd ever experienced before.
It was worth a shot.
Jane stood and turned her back to the tree she was about to climb, resting against it. She would give the conversation a go. If they talked and Jane was helped, great. If not, well, Jane had nothing to lose. Maybe even Sun would understand enough to join in.
"What about you, Libby? Anything happen worth sharing?"

Libby thought. Well, she tried. There was nothing to think about because nothing had happened. Concerning her at least. "Nah, not really. Besides the fact that I've been bored out of my brains for the past 2 weeks. If that's worth sharing." She smiled. "I don't know. I never thought I"d be saying this, but for once things are getting a little old. Like at home when you would spend two or three days around your house doing nothing." Libby sighed remembering home.

Jane smirked at Libby. Things were getting old because everyone was getting comfortable. It was becoming "home" to everyone so now there was just the same old things to do. Fix food, do the laundry. tend the garden, go for water... all the same things they did in civilization, just without the modern conveniences.
"Yeah, it is getting a little boring these days. I was thinking about quitting doing my laundry. Maybe that would shake things up a little bit," she chuckled. "Honestly though, we've just all adapted and now we do the same things everyday. like a routine. It's just like home without the comfy mattress to collapse onto every night."

Libby put relaxed look on her face. "Yeah, I guess so." She began to think, isn't that a good thing? I mean, how can you complain when people are comfortable and calm. Maybe now she just needed to think of things in a different way. "Maybe instead of thinking that things are boring, I should think of it as being nice and calm. Like everything is going great and we shouldn't take that for granted." she smiled. Libby was feeling a little bit better about the situation now.

Yeah, like the calm before the storm, Jane thought. She never said it though. Libby needed hope just as much as everyone else here.
Sun had been very quiet. Jane wondered if perhaps she'd interrupted more than just chit-chat. Jane was interested to talk to Libby and Sun, but if Sun was in the midst of getting advice or wanting some counseling from Libby then Jane could wait. She had been secluding herself from the rest of them for this long. One more day (or week) wouldn't kill her. Something else might, but not lack of conversation!
"I'm going to get that fruit," Jane said shoving off the tree and turning to climb it. "You ladies want any? It's genuine apples. Jack discovered them a while back..."

Apples? Libby looked up. Sure enough, apples right above her head. She didn't even know that there were apples on the island. Libby looked at Sun then shook her head as she looked back over to Jane. "I'm alright. I might get some later though, they look good." Libby smiled as she threw the last twig out of the garden. She figured that she'd go back to the beach and take a walk or something. She'd enjoyed talking to Jane and Sun. "Hey, well, I think I'll head back on to the beach now. I'll see you ladies later." She gave a little wave to both of them then began to walk out of th garden.

Jane waved to Libby as she left, feeling something between relief that she wouldn't be confessing her fears and saddened by the thought at the same time. She smiled at Sun then and proceeded to climb the tree and grab a couple of apples from the higher regions. There weren't many left but Jane was surprised there were any at all to begin with. It wasn't like the tropical climate was known for it's apple trees. Oranges, yes.
Mmm, oranges sounded good. Jane wondered absently if there were any orange trees on the island. She assumed if someone planted an apple tree there had to be oranges somewhere, right? Jane shimmied down he tree and tossed an apple to Sun.
"One of these days I'm going to find us some oranges," she quipped with a grin.
